A UHT processor can hit its temperature setpoint and still leave a lot of performance on the table

by Kyler Jackson, Director of ESL/Aseptic

In ESL and aseptic processing, I look at much more than whether a system can achieve the required time and temperature profile. The real engineering challenge is building a system that gives the plant consistent control, efficient operation, and reliable performance day after day.

That is what we designed the Therma-Stat around.

The direct steam injection process rapidly brings product to the required processing temperature, while controlled flash cooling removes the water introduced through the culinary steam. Product-to-product regeneration then recovers energy between the incoming raw product and sterile product stream.

That thermal efficiency matters, but so does everything happening around it.

The Therma-Stat incorporates utility monitoring, phase detection, specialized HMI graphics, event logging and trending, and seamless transitions between sterilization, production, AIC, and CIP. These are the details that give operators better visibility into the process and help reduce utility consumption, product loss, and unnecessary downtime.

The other thing I consider important is flexibility. A properly engineered UHT system shouldn't force the plant to design its products and production schedule around the equipment. Our Therma-Stat systems can operate in both ESL and aseptic applications and can be engineered for a broad range of low and high-acid products.

And from my perspective, the equipment itself is only part of the solution.

At Statco-DSI, our dedicated ESL/Aseptic team stays engaged well beyond system design and execution. We’re there for commissioning, start-up and operator training, then continue supporting the system through field service, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and spare parts support throughout its operating life.

That continuity matters because a successful UHT system isn't just about how it performs on the day it is commissioned. It’s about how it performs years later.

UHT engineering is about precision, efficiency, and control at every stage of the process.

That’s the standard Statco-DSI builds into every Therma-Stat.
